Has he been into hospital before with this, for long at all?

JanH · 02/01/2004 20:59

misdee, is he on a waiting list for some kind of op? Sorry to hear he's had to go into hospital anyway and hope he will be home soon. I am amazed at what you have achieved in the new place already - what a star!

he is waiting to hear if he is being put on the waiting list for a heart transplant (does that make sense).

Oh no misdee, so sorry to hear about your dh. Have you got plenty of support? I really feel for you as dh has been laid up with a bad back for 5 days and that is bad enough without the additional worry of heart transplants etc. Hope he is ok xxx

Lisa78 · 02/01/2004 23:16

sorry misdee, rotten start to 2004, hope things get lots better soon

zebra · 02/01/2004 23:19

OH Misdee, so sorry to hear about that. His heart condition is that bad, is it? How old is he? Has he known about the weak heart for a long time? My husband has a chronic loud hacking cough that bothers me A LOT since he had pneumonia years ago, but you reminded me to be grateful that at least it's only respiratory.

Roscoe · 03/01/2004 09:09

Sorry to hear about your rotten start to the year. I hope your dh is allowed home soon and that you get the decision you were hoping for regarding the transplant waiting list. Good luck. xxxx

misdee · 03/01/2004 09:14

they sent him home last night after 5 hours there on monitors and the drip. the main reason they sent him home is lack of beds.
he is on more anti-sickness pills, they think it could be one of his other tablets he takes that is irratating his stomach.
we are now going to attempt to get thro the next month with out trips to the hospital. we know feb is full of appointments, so if this month stays free i might relax a bit.

I have a friend who had something similar following a bout of flu (described as a virus in the heart - pretty sure it was cardiomyopathy). His heart was very swollen. He had emergency treatment, and has since been on medication, which seems to be keeping it under control really well. You wouldn't know there was anything wrong with him - a very keen hiker.

I hope it works out well for your DH

HarrassedDad · 05/01/2004 16:50

My sympathies to you and your dh misdee. I have also got DCM (dilated cardiomyopathy). So far the drugs are working. Expect you know this but DCM can be inherited: relatives and especially children should be screened for it. Our son has inherited DCM from me.

Hope all goes well for you all.

Joanie · 05/01/2004 17:21

(partner of harrasseddad, but felt moved to write my own thing) So sorry to hear your news. It must have been horrible to find out a shock like that while pregnant and with dh so young. THere are surprising amounts of people with dcm and similar out there, but a lot are undedected. Although our ds is doing great, we are now paronoid about him coming into contact with anyone with flu etc. Life's a whole different ball game when you've got something like this. But my dh and ds seem quite well at the moment and reading about your sorrows puts it all into perspective for me and makes me feel how fortunate we are. Good luck to all of you.

Luckymum · 05/01/2004 17:36

Joanie and HarrassedDad (also misdee) sorry to hear about the DCM. As parents of children with congenital heart defects/disease if you need support look here and here (hopefully misdee you won't need it).

All the best
