NHS Dentists! How have these changes affected you?

My dentist has offered us Denplan where I pay £16 a month and I get 2 checkups a year plus 1 with a hygienist, 10% off treatment and I'm able to have appointments out of school hours. I was told if I didn't sign up I'd only get a checkup once every 2 years, would have to take the girls out of school for appointments and would have to ring NHS direct for emergencies!
How long before we have to pay to see the doctor!!

I suppose I'm just lucky to have a dentist at all!

Lizs did you have to pay to be assessed?
How much do you pay each month?

I had no dental care during pregnancy and for about 3 years prior to that. Had 3 dentists that went private. I finally managed to sign up with an NHS dentist shortly after giving birth. My teeth are now a mess and I've had to have loads of treatment. Now the dentist is going private. The options were contract at £13 a month, covering 2 visits a year and 10% discount. Or £40 to remain on the books and £55 for a check up. Have opted for the latter.

We were assessed but that was a long time ago. I was peed off at the time because although my teeth were generally in a better condition than dh's, the root filling I had at 18 went against me on their scoring system so we came up in the same cost bracket. We now pay just under £15 a month each.

oh and no iirc the actual assessment was free.
