Paracetamols etc are fine when bf'ing. Poor you, I know how you feel , used to get tonsillitis all the time, finally had them removed when ds1 was 5 months (that was hell - could only take paracetomol cos i was bf'ing!). Hope you get bettr really soon.

Also drink fizzy drinks, it really does help soothe the throat better than anything ese I know.

Get well soon Smile

erythromycin is fine whyn breast feeding. also try soluble co-codamol instead of paracetamol swish and gargle before you swallow.
You can also take brufen for short periods of time whilst breast feeding.

How old is your wee one buffy?

hey buffy
I just had the throat infecction from hell too and the doctor told me I could take Beechams Flu Plus - according to the packaging it is normally ok to take but to check with your doctor
I am very reluctant to take anything usually but I found the beechams to be a god send when sleeping it off wasn't an opyion and I had two childen to look after all day
hth

tahnks garfieldsgirl.was worried about how much paracetamol is in them.read the packet and it says to consult gp first, rang gp as shes the one who wont prescribe me anything, and i got told that i will have to make an appointment if i want to speak to her about it!how ridiculous is that!asked for an appointment, the next one available is next thursday!will either be better or dead by then!!!

dd is 20 months.dh has got a cold,no shaking or fevers but hes had to go to bed as he feels soooo ill!so,im left with screaming dd,a moaning teenager (ds1),and a hormonal 12 year old (dd1)who is now screaming at ds for going in her room!!arrrggghhh!!!

You can certainly maxdose paracetamol when bf, without fears. And with a 20-month-old, you can maxdose iboprofen, as well (yes, some gets through - but your DD is old enough that a bit iboprofen won't do her any harm).

Chapsmum · 28/03/2006 13:38

I would take co-codamol then. Avoid things containing ephidrine, they will not do much harm but they can potentially make your wee one hyper.
Codine and paracetamol and brufen are fine to take whilst breastfeeding.
