HELP , I'M REALLY WORRIED !!

Dd2 aged 9 months vomited saturday night after her milk, again on sunday.
Yesterday she was very drowsey and miserable so we took her to GP and the hospital who said it looks like a viral infection as she hasn't got a temperature. Today she is even more sleepy and vomited again when i tried her with milk this morning.
She looks aweful, very pale with bags under her eyes.

Some of you may know that Dd1 died from pneumococcal meningitis last year and
i am in a total panic that Dd2 is seriously ill !!

Is this normal for a child to be so drowsey and has any of your children had a similar bug?

Shall i take her back to the GP?

HELP I'm worried sick !!!

ring NHS direct and have a chat. they always err on the side of caution so if they say this is usual then try not to panic, hard I know.

heavenis · 28/03/2006 13:10

Go back to your Gp. You know when your child isn't as they normally would be. I presume the Gp knows about your first dd.

itdoesntmatter · 28/03/2006 13:14

i would take her back to GP. they would much rather see a healthy child than not see an ill child

Twiglett · 28/03/2006 13:18

I think babies do get drowsier when fighting viruses .. BUT I would take her back to GP without a doubt because you are worried and you are her mum

LillyPink · 28/03/2006 13:24

I would take her back to the GP - if anything just to reassure you that she is not seriously ill. Actually, if you are really worried I would by pass GP and go to A & E.

I don't think that anyone could blame you for being extra cautious given your circumstances, sorry to hear about that.

Chapsmum · 28/03/2006 13:35

Poor wee soul, I would take her back to your gp if you are worried, he knows you and your history, an a and e wouldn't.
It is normal for a we one to be drowsy shen they are not weel but if she is limp and lethargic, she needs help asap. Plenty fluid and calpol and remeber the gp is there to re-assure you, no just treat your wee one. I hope you are both feeling better soon AJ, ((((hugs)))

Mfer · 28/03/2006 13:46

Agree with Lilypink - if you are that anxious get to A & E - my friend is a sister in A & E and has always said to me they'd rather you come in and it be nothing at least you will be reassured.

Chapsmum · 28/03/2006 14:01

Mfer would agree that anyone seriously worried about a baby should take them to a and e. I work in a and e myself and would rather see a healthy baby with a re-assured mother.

However I would hesistate to take my wee one to a and e looking for re-assurance as a gp surg can be less threatening and cleaner environment and he has more time to deal with concerns that you have one on one without pagers going off.

have you managed to get any fluid down her. If she is only drinking milk and throwing it back up she could be very dehydrated.

spoonfuls our doctor recommended cammomile tea with sugar. I teaspoon every 2 minutes. At 1 year she recommended watered down flat coke or a baby isotonic from the chemist.

Also agree, use your instinct and don't be nervous about taking her to A&E. If she hasn't had any fluids since sunday I would take her straight to A&E.

amyjade · 28/03/2006 15:47

She has perked up a bit after a good sleep.
She has been drinking water and juice with no problem it's the milk she is throwing up.
she has eaten a rusk and yohgart which has also stayed down.
Fingers crossed she is on the mend, if she is no better later today i will take her back to hospital as the childrens ward have given us open access.
The fact she hasn't had a high temperature is reassuring me as i know that means she doesn't have an infection.

Thanks everyone.
