Well first the impressive part: I took dd (19 months) to the emergency clinic this morning and we were in and out within 3/4 of an hour! marvellous.

But I took her there because she has an enormous lump behind her ear which worried me - dp thought it might be a gland infection or something.

Terrible really - her ear has been sticking out since Christmas day, but I just thought she was starting to look more like her daddy. Only noticed the lump yesterday.

Anyway the doc said she didn't think it was an infection as that would be hard (it's spongey - I think there's some trapped liquid underneath) and lower down. She thought that she must have hit herself somehow, though there's no bruise. But when I said she has just recovered from a flu type virus (with fever), she said she'd prescribe antibiotics anyway.

Her temperature is fine today and she seems fine - I am inclined not to give her the antibiotics (which I haven't even bought yet) but my doctor-knows-best conditioning makes me feel that perhaps I should. What do you all think?

If she is seeming alright I'd leave out the anti-Bs; it sounds like it's sorting itself out as these things usually do. Don't throw them away yet, though, just in case you decide she's not improving after all!

My foster-sister had a benign cyst removed when she was about 12. She had had it most of her life, and it was a lump behind the ear very much like you describe.

Oops, should have said, don't throw away the prescription, just in case!

thanks Scrooge - that's what I thought (except the part about the cyst that is. hope it isn't that). Just needed reassurance really.
