Freckle at back of eye??

DS just had his eyes tested. The optician mentioned a freckle / mole at the back of one of his eyes. He queried whether we had been told of it at the last appointment, but we hadn't and he couldn't see anything on the notes.

He didn't seem concerned but is sending DS to a specialist. Now my fear is that he was playing it down in DS's hearing. (typical neurotic mother alert)

So, has anyone heard of this? Should I be worried or could it just be routine? I'm probably more neurotic than normal as DS was diagnosed with CFS 3 years ago and I've often wondered if that is definately what he has. At the time, the only symptom he was complaining about was a headache and the diagnosis was very quick - i.e he had been ill for a few weeks and not months.

I had the same thing a few years ago.

Had loads of appointments where no one said anything specific but just hinted at really sinister stuff.

Turned out to be nothing. Just a "thing".

(Think it had a medical name like a "something cyst" but it was totally benign and dead common)

Honestly, they were really thorough but whatever it was called I was told they're really common.

Oh and just to add it didn't need any treatment at all. It's still there as far as I know!

I have this and sometimes ,when HPs have had ocassion to look at my eye they have seemed a bit over interested in it .

But so long as it doesn't change shape or size they seem happy .

Can't say it's ever caused me any concern .

Can understand what a worry for you though . Good that they're being thorough and checking .

I've just been told I have this. The optician said it's common and just the same as any other freckle or mole anywhere else on your body. So like a normal mole you need to keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't grow or change shape. I've been referred to the eye clinic at the hospital (and tbh I'm a bit nervous about that cos I don't know what they'll actually do to me. But I'm sure it will be fine ). The optician has said that they might not even want to see me, either way I'll be back at the opticians in 6 months to make sure nothing has changed.

Some opticians will now take a picture of the back of the eye so they can monitor any changes. A freckle at the back of the eye is totally normal, they will double check it all to make sure that's all it is (when they found mine had loads of tests done) but I guess that's more reassuring than doing nothing.

He's had a picture taken, and they have contacted our GP for a referral. I guess he can't be too worried as he said he would compare it to the picture taken at his next eyetest in 2 years.

The referral letter says it's a : temporal choroidal naevus

I have one and my story is the same as all those already mentioned.

They tole me about 1 in 10 people have them, so very common.

I guess I have to wait for the opthamologist appointment now, so there's no point worrying until then.

Me too, and ditto.
At each (standard) opticians appt they measure it, and ot down size.
whenever I see a new opticians, we go through it again... "ooh, did you know you have a freckle on your eye?'

PS I also have freckles on the sole of my foot, and the palm of my hand. But I'm not really especially freckly otherwise.
