Between a bone scan and normal scan or xray???

I am to have one on my hand and am unsure what to expect.

Anyone had one?

i had a bone density scan... they had to inject me with small dose radiation ... it helps show up areas of inflamation if i remember right... doesnt hurt... the scanner is mobile, it moves around you taking images... mine was spinal so took a while, a hand one will probably be really quick. it was fine.

Doh! Sorry, it's basically - they inject dye into you, wait for it to work and then scan you like an x-ray, the x-ray picks up the radiation from the dye, which can show up areas of inflammation/swelling.... took DS about 30 mins, but they were watching his kidneys drain, yours should be quite fast once the dye has spread :)

If you need to pee during or just after they make you use a special radioactive loo! (that might just be for kidney ones like DS's though!)
