Abnormal smear results?

midori1999 · 18/09/2012 14:21

I have had a letter todaysaying that my recent smear showed changes that require further investigation and I will receive a letter from the clinic within 8 weeks with an appointment. I also received a letter from the clinic with an appointment in two weeks time for a colcoscopy.

I realise that most abnormal smear results are nothing to worry about as such and most require no treatment, but the letter doesn't say whether the cnages are mild or anything, is there any way I can find out? The letter says I can ring whoever took my smear for more information, will they be able to tell me if the changes are mild, moderate etc? This is my first abnormal smear result and it was a bit overdue as I had been pregnant with twin girls who I lost after they were born very prematurely and then was TTC again and was pregnant etc etc.

Thank you. Sorry for not replying sooner, I was exhausted last night and once my DD went for her nap this afternoon I decided to settle on the sofa with chocolate and a film.

They were very reassuring st the clinic. Not forthcoming with information, but happy to answer when I asked things. I saw the two areas of abnormal cells on the screen and I suppose they were about a 1/3 of the opening of the cervix, so not too extensive. They did a LLETZ to remove them, which I was nervous about but that was actually completely fine and obviously what's been removed has been sent to the lab. It's a 4-6 week wait for the results, but the consultant seemed to think it was CIN3 and nothing else, which is good. I'm a bit sore today, but nothing paracetamol hasn't sorted and I certainly slept better last night!

Thank you very much for all the support!

I am in Edinburgh actually and think I'll be ok now, but if you fancy a coffee anytime, just let me know? Smile

This is good news :) They will have taken the abnormal cells and a margin around them, so even if there is anything more going on, its out now!!! Hope you enjoyed the chocolate and the film!

I'm in the South East of England, so a bit far for a coffee for me Grin

Hi midori, glad things went well. I had an abnormal smear (CIN3 changes), followed by LLETZ treatment in Sept 2010. I fell pregnant Nov 10 and all was fine. All smears since have been fine so it can all work out ok. I'm in Edinburgh too !

Hebrideanprincess, that's reassuring, thank you! Our DC must be around the same age then as my DD was born in June '11.
