Had mirena fitted three weeks ago. Several days of er, brown rusty spotting, followed by period which has gone on, and on, and on. Mine normally 4 days tops, this one nearly 2 weeks.

Anyone find the same with Mirena?

My first Mirena took just over six weeks to settle in properly. Just as you describe, spotting some days, bleeding others. It was a pain in the bum (not literally). I was on the verge of asking for it to be taken out, when it finally began to behave! Then it was fab, no periods at all, or spotting etc. After 5 years I had it out and a new one straight in and that settled immediately.

Thanks Kitty, that helps. Yes it has crossed my mind whether it isn't for me and I should have it taken out, but as it took 30, yes, 30 mins to put in (and that was very experienced gynaecologist), I'm not keen to rush back!!!

Apparently I have an awkward cervix and scarring from childbirth. Hmm

Hopefully it'll all settle down like yours did.

Oh Minx, stick with it for a bit longer. It'll be worth it in the end.

After nearly a year of brown sludgy spotting, I had mine taken out. I'd not had problems with previous copper iud's, but the Mirena didn't agree with me.

I had a period when it was fitted. It lasted for nearly 2 months but, it was very light flow. Prior to fitting it was like a crime scene everytime I went to the loo, which was hourly! I was in terrible pain too which dissappeared almost immediately.

Probably worth giving it a bit more time.

I had a period that lasted six months after mine, not particularly light either, I had it taken out at that point.
Was reluctant to give up on it as I had fainted when it was put in as it was so painful. Was very easily removed though.
I have the implant now and have vv light occasional periods.
