Having second op tomorrow for detatched retina so has to be done ASAP and havi it under local. Hard going last time to keep still, not cough etc for three hours and this time longer and I am full of cold!!

It's just gone o to my chest so lost my voice today and have the hacking cough. It sounds really silly to think I can't have it done due to a cold? I can't have a general as I'm pregnant.

Will they tell me to come back on a few days do you think? Can't ring them as the eye hospital is not open until tomorrow.

Ring them first thing tomorrow.

Other than that, dose yourself up to the eyeballs with Day & Night cold & flu stuff, drink plenty of water and get an early night.

I was in this position last year and the op went ahead - good luck!

Thank you Smile can't ring them as have to be there at 7am and it's 25 miles away and can't have anything other than paracetamol as I'm pregnant. I've eaten four oranges today and I detest oranges for fond extra vitamin c!!

It's thd coughing really I'm worrying about and struggling to swallow/clear my throat whilst having up stay totally still. Fingers crossed as just want it over Sad

I had full general and 1.5 hour surgery when full of cold. They said as long as temperature was normal they would go ahead.

GP had said it was virally, but amazingly went away with the massive dose of antibiotics I had to have pre surgery.

I would turn up at 7 am, as planned. If they don't think you are well enough, then they won't do it. However, I think it's up to them to make the call, especially as the op is urgent.

Generally surgery is postponed for colds if you're having a general anaesthetic because of the risks of breathing difficulties. All you can do is pitch up and see what they say! Make sure they know about any medications you've taken so they don't give you anything that interacts etc.

Morning Smile I did have my op, I did say I had a 'tail end of a cokd' but there was no fooling the nurses GrinI was second on the list so they were all listening to me coughing but as I didn't have a temp were happy to go ahead. Lots of stopping to cough in the op but all done now hurrah Smile
