My hands are so sore

Since I did some serious cleaning in the kitchen yesterday and along with the cold weather, they are cracked and sore and bleeding.

Each time I bend my one knuckle the skin splits and starts bleeding.

Whats the best thing to put on it ?? I don't have any hand cream.

I get this on my hands too. It's especially sore when cracks go under the thumb and finger nails. I use emsulsifying ointment, but tbh I'm not sure it helps that much. Will follow this thread with great interest.

misdee · 17/03/2006 21:41

what 'creams' do you have handy

moondog · 17/03/2006 21:42

You must wear rubber gloves!

I would use some oil (olive pref.) and pop on a pair of cotton gloves if you have them.

Tomorrow, get some Neutrogena hand cream. It's the best.

interstella · 17/03/2006 21:43

put lots of olive oil on them and massage them.Or vaseline .If they are still oily at bedtime put socks on your hands!!

nutcracker · 17/03/2006 21:43

LOL Misdee

Errrr have Johnsons baby lotion but if i remember correctly that will sting.

Other than that I don't have a fat lot really. Have some tube of something thats for nappy rash and thats it LOL.

Oh, sympathies, I get this a lot - although not much at the moment, the house is ABSOLUTELY disgusting, Grin but at least only my knuckles are cracked.

What about savlon or germolene from first aid kit?

vitomum · 17/03/2006 21:43

i get this too and it's really hard to get rid of. But i made a breakthrough recently - i used some old nipple cream! it's really soothing, healing and moisturising.

nutcracker · 17/03/2006 21:44

I know I should wear gloves, i just hate them alot, they make your hands smell awful Blush

Will get some Neutrogena tommorow, and put vasaline or olive oil on them tonight.

They look so ugly.

Ah,because of the lanolin in the nipple cream!
Apparently sheep shearers have the most beautifully soft hands for the same reason.

moondog · 17/03/2006 21:46

nc..some are cotton lined,or put on a cotton then a rubber pair.
Stink is small price to pay imho.

Mercy · 17/03/2006 21:47

If circulation is a problem you must get some chilblain cream (pref Nelsons)

You must also wear gloves when cleaning. Those chemicals are not good!

spinach · 17/03/2006 21:48

i use an almond oil cream from body shop, works within 24 hours... nipple cream also brill!

Katiepoo · 18/03/2006 19:51

I have tried everything and Neutrogena hand cream is the only thing that works for me! I was in the chemist the other day and a builder came in asking for it??!! Maybe he's trying to keep his hands all lovely and soft too!!

spacecadet · 18/03/2006 19:55

neutrogena is excellent, also kamillosan is very good.

nutcracker · 19/03/2006 09:19

Hiya, got some hand cream, not neutrogena cos they hadn't got any, but the stuff i got seems to be working, my hands look a lot better and are not so sore touch.
