LOADS of blood in my urine.....

crikeybill · 12/09/2012 13:00

I went to the GP this morning as I have had blood in my urine for the last few days and oh it bloody burns when I pee ! Not too hard to figure out I have cystitus so she has given me antibiotics.

I am now at work and OH.MY.GOD I am uncomfy. My stomach feels like its on fire and I am peeing every 15 mins !! Its like fire to go and just now when I looked the whole toilet bowl was bright red and splashed with blood !!

Is this usual for cystitus ?? I know its painful and I dont think I'm a lightweight having had 3 kids, but OW OW OW !!!!

yes, when I get cystitis it is as bad as that. The last time I went, theGP asked me to go and do a sample - and it was mostly blood ? She didn't seem overly alarmed.

I don't know how you can bear to be at work though - when i get it i feel so bad that I have to lie down - only to jog to the loo.

The antibiotics should kick in quickly though. Keep drinking lots ofwater.

I've peed pure blood with severe cystitis - yes, it bloody hurts!!!

Try taking cranberry tablets every day when you finish the AB's.

meanwhile, drink LOADS of water to dilute and flush it through; it will actually hurt less (counter-intuitive)

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 12/09/2012 13:05

Sounds like an A&E trip to me...

shrimponastick · 12/09/2012 13:05

If still as bad by tomorrow I would seek further medical advice though.

Hope you feel better soon.

I dont want to be here shrimp trust me, but I was off last week as DD2 had shingles and couldnt go to school. I really cant go off again.
Luckily I have my office and can shut the door. I am not doing much aside from trips to the loo and mumsnetting paperwork.

Theres an M&S in the main building think I'll run over and get some cranberry juice !!

NO!! Don't drink cranberry when you HAVE an infection but to stop a further infection when you are well again.
The cranberry makes the urine more acidic so will ward off growth of bacteria but very acidic urine will make you feel more unwell. Take the sachets of stuff to make your urine alkaline and only drink water untill you are well. Avoid tea, coffee and alcohol as well along with any spicy foods.
Step away from the cranberry!!

OMG the pain. Its like pissing glass Sad
Im getting a bit worried. Just been to the loo, lots more pink stained wee and now trails of , well blood stained stuff on the tissue ?
Its almost like the blood stained gunk that comes out when you have a period ?
Would i be feeling worse if I had kidney stones ? Could this be kidney stones or am I just being a ridiculous wimp ?

Are you drinking water?? I mean lots of water?? It truly does help with the pain - dilutes it.

ClaimedByMe · 12/09/2012 16:09

I have been pissing blood and hedgehogs since I got up this morning, the nurse says "you are loaded with bugs" no shit

I am feeling very sorry for myself and you too!!

Thanks
EyeoftheStorm · 12/09/2012 16:14

I pissed blood when first went to uni and had cystitis without knowing what it was. They don't call it the honeymoon illness for nothing!

I thought there was something seriously wrong with my kidneys and ended up sobbing my heart out in A&E. The doc looked at me like this Hmm and gave me a massive horse tablet of antibiotics. He said the bugs irritate the lining of the bladder and that's why it bleeds.

Bloody wee is the pits. Hope you feel better soon.

Get some squash or something and add a teaspoonful of bicarb to each glass - the squash hides the taste of the bicarb. Lemon barley water is supposed to be good for cystitis, too.

topsi · 12/09/2012 20:11

When did you start the abx? If you are no better after 48hrs of medication I would go back to the Dr. Bladder infections can spread to the kidneys if left to fester.

weegiemum · 12/09/2012 21:13

If you had kidney stones you'd (probably) be in a lot of pain in your back and side and then right in your groin.
However there is a chance you have pyelonephritis (kidney infection). Do you have a temperature?
drink as much water as you can and see the doctor again if you don't feel better. You might need a different antibiotic, what did you get?

weegiemum · 12/09/2012 21:17

Also, it looks like you're pissing pure blood but you're not, it only takes about a thimbleful in your bladder to make look like that. Or so my urologist told me! Still bloody very scary though!

FrustratedNovelist · 13/09/2012 15:44

Hi OP, delurking as a veteran of cystitis attacks! First of all don't go near cranberry juice, or anything acidic! Take painkillers, and use a hot water bottle around your bladder. And have a look online for Waterfall D Mannose. It's a lifesaver.

Lots and lots of sympathy- I've spent hours of my life sobbing on the loo and had lots of blood in wee before too- it's scary and soooo painful. I really recommend the Mannose- I haven't had to take antibiotics for a few years now (and used to have to take a course at least three times a year.)

Hope you feel better soon. Cystitis is absolutely miserable!

mum4041 · 13/09/2012 23:04

Highly recommend painkillers. It stops you feeling the urgency.

topsi · 14/09/2012 08:52
