dh alcohol issues - smells of peardrops? anyone any experience of this?

dh occasionally binge drinks, but when he is drying out, for want of a word, he stinks.
google brings up some strange suggestions but i wonder if anyone has any idea what this could be.

Ketones...they are fairly normal but it must. Have been a fair binge

i thought it was ketones.
does that mean anything other than just the drying out, clearing system?

It sounds as though it could be alcoholic ketoacidosis. If he has other symptoms such as deep, rapid breathing, abdominal pain, seems confused or sleepy then you should take him to A&E to be assessed.

well, he is ok now, now he is sober. but confusion and sleepiness i just thought was the drink. and yes to abdominal pain.
so i shall look up alcoholic ketoacidosis?

I would not be worried about the smell rather the drinking issue-if it is an issue not a once in a while.

If he seems OK now, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Ketotic breath can smell of pear drops and can be a sign of diabetes also.

He ought to see a GP really.
