The 'school food trust' are from this sept changing the food provided in school vending machines.

Unhealthy options will be replaced with milk, water , fruit juice, nuts, seeds, fruit

As a parent you may want to express your views , if you have a child with severe food allergy you view will be important.

given that alot of chocolate bars contain nuts or 'may contain traces of nuts' etc having nuts will not make a huge difference for nut allergy sufferers.

Also not that many people are affecetd by water / juice / milk where as the crap they put in 'juice drinks' / fruit shoots / diet fizzy drinks etc cant be good.

Geven that vending machines are already there curely changing the content to healthier foods MUST be a good thing?

GOT to be a good thing

bumping for those who have allergic children.

Trace amounts of allergen can cause a reaction. So IMO loose nuts and seeds spread around the school would be considered by some to create a high risk of allergic reaction /contact or accidental ingestion.

sealed nuts in chocolate are safer , than loose nuts, or hands spreading nut traces all around the school.

said this on other thread... but nuts "sealed" in chocolate are not necessarily less risk.

i know of someone who had a reaction from a worksurface that someone had put a nut/s on earlier

starlover · 18/03/2006 20:50

they could just not have nuts in them.

or, schools that know they have kids with severe reactions could choose not to have nuts stocked

williamsmummy · 18/03/2006 23:20

that would be every school in the country.
and not just the pupils have nut alleriges.

my friend at school was allergic to nuts and was rushed to hospital in an ambulence after placeing her arm where a snickers bar had been (but wasnt anymore!)

Chocolate bars are dangerouse too!

fine so just don't have nuts in them....

what'#s the problem? I am sure that the powers that be will have thought this through!
