Bad cough & asthma - doctor or not?

I have asthma but it is quite well controlled. I have had a chesty cough for a few weeks that didn't bother me until this week. I have been coughing up green stuff (sorry - tmi) & have been tight chested & used my inhaler very frequently. Until yesterday I had a rustle in my chest but now I've coughed up lots of stuff that has eased. Last year I had a bad chest infection that took me months to recover from & I'm scared of getting that bad again. Don't know whether to go to docs tomorrow, I don't feel ill as such but breathing isn't as good as normal, I have pains in ribs now too but I think its from coughing.

Doctor. Pain in ribs could be pleurisy.

Not a medic but have had pleurisy. Not fun.

It sounds like you have a chest infection.

You probably need antibiotics and may need steroids as well if your asthma is exacerbating.

Doctor. No question. Don't muck around with your lungs.

Thank you, I thought that really but wanted someone to tell me it so I don't feel like I'm over reacting. I was hoping dh would tell me that but he's just been ignoring me!
