Thickening of the womb/ uterine lining in post menopausal women?

My mother (68) has had problems recently - she has had a lot of UTI's which do not seem to clear for long after antibiotics. Anyway, she has been referred to have various tests to try and find out what is wrong.

Today she has had an ultra sound scan and they have found that she has some thickening of the womb lining. I don't know how thick etc. They are going to refer her to a gynaecologist for further testing now. She has no symptoms in the womb area (no bleeding/ pain/ spotting etc).

She is freaking out. I am trying to tell her that it is something that they have found just because they are looking in that general area. The fact she has no symptoms is a good thing, the fact that they didn't see any problems with her kidneys or bladder is a good thing.

Does anyone know anything much about the thickening of the womb? I've read a little bit on google but can't see much. I know it can develop/ or be a sign of cancer but was wondering if anyone has any personal/family experience of this?

How common is it in older women?

Thanks so much!
