hi

i've had loads of styes in my eye, as far as i'm aware they are not contagious and you should be able to get eye drops from your GP

Gemmitygem · 16/03/2006 10:48

I've had them quite a lot. Sounds crazy but I rub a piece of raw garlic on it (not in the eye itself, just on the rim where the stye is). works better if you catch it early. It stings a bit but gets rid of it (natural antiseptic).
but not if the smell upsets your dd etc..

My mum used to rub her wedding ring over any styes we had - had to be gold though!
Also used Golden Eye ointment - if they still do it.
I think they are contagious.

my dd2 had one a few months ago. there isnt much you can do . bath it in boiled water and if it looks like there is puss then wipe it away. i had to keep doing this until it popped then just keep it clean and dry. shouldbnt last too long Smile

rub your wedding ring on it

Buy a tube of golden eye, you can get it from any chemist and it works pretty well..

smellymelly · 16/03/2006 17:27

thanks, have tried my wedding ring, but it is platinum, don't know if that will work!!

Can't get golden eye, we are in france. but if it hasn't cleared by mon, will go to the doc's unless you think i should go before that??

does anyone know for sure if they are infectious. It seems to have turned the whole white bit of her eye pink, is this normal?

reatment for Styes

Most styes heal within a few days on their own. You can encourage this process by applying hot compresses for 10 to 15 minutes, three or four times a day over the course of several days. This will relieve the pain and bring the stye to a head, much like a pimple. The stye ruptures and drains, then heals.

Never "pop" a stye like a pimple; allow it to rupture on its own. If you have frequent styes, your eye doctor may prescribe an antibiotic ointment to prevent a recurrence.

they' arent contagious, so no need for her to stay off school
