Do babies get high fever when teething???

Help!!! My baby is 8 months old soon and has now 6 teeth. She got 39.3 Celsius of temperature on Saturday and then went down after giving her paracatemol and leaving her naked. Two of her teeth came out at the same time (one on the Friday and one on Sunday). And then tonight she got again the 39.3 celsius of temperature, she is bitting everything around. She is copping well, not grumpy, eats well and still active. Should I worry or think she is only teething... Please help, the doctors give away antibiotics so easily that I don't feel taking her there if she is only teething!!!!

I would take her to the GP, just to get her checked over. It could be teeth, although tbh, neither of mine ever had temps when teething, but it could be something else, maybe ears infection or something?

My DD has been known to hit a high temp when teething. Give the nurofen to bring down the temp and just get her checked by teh GP just in case it's something else instead (ear or urinary tract infection). Hope she feels better soon.

Thank you. If she has an ear infection, do the doctor prescribe antibiotics or does other not so strong medicine would be ok????

HI

My DD had a temp of 104 when she was teething all i did was give her calpol and stripped her down and put her in a tepid bath for a while.

she cooled down quickly after that :)

All mine have had high temperatures when they have teethed but someone told me that they dont get a high temperature with teeth. I beg to differ. So last time I saw my GP I asked her out of interest and she said "yes, babies can get high temperatures when they teeth".

Dont ignore the temperature though, treat it as you would a temperature if she was unwell. You can give Calpol and Infant Neurofen together. :)

my dd always gets a temp with teething, this weekend she had temp of 40 which came down with paracetamol and stripping her down... shes then fine, definately cutting her final teeth

It is quite a relief to know that you have or are experiencing the same as we are... I have just checked her now, her temperature has gone down... Her nose seems to be blocked but she is fast asleep!!! We might get number 7 tooth tomorrow... Wink

i always put dd in bed with me when shes teeting, so i can keep an eye on her. she wakes up a lot with a temp and needs fluids so its easier

hunkermunker · 15/03/2006 20:30

Yep, DS1 always did - went as high as 41.3 one time, but was regularly over 40.

Took him to the doctor to get him checked most times his temp spiked as would have hated to miss a throat infection or similar - but he was always pronounced "a well child with a temperature" - definitely teeth IMO.

spinach · 15/03/2006 20:31

i only worry now if i cant get her temp down within an hour, then i know something else is up

sunshinebaby · 15/03/2006 21:11

I'll keep that one in mind Spinach.. Thank you!Smile

DS 9 1/2 months also has a high temp up to 40 C the past couple of days. He also has a runny nose. So it could be that there's a cold going around. I have a cold too. I was toying with a trip to A&E tonight if it breaks 40 again. But I'm inclined to think he's better off at home where at least he can get some sleep.
