I had to pay £25 for my GP to sign the private application form too. I bet the money goes straight in their pocket not rebated back to the NHS.

fairyjay · 14/03/2006 11:07

Do they not have to give a medical report within this cost?

changednametoprotecttheinnocen · 14/03/2006 11:08

I know ..the thing is she didnt even touch me and I was out in 2 minutes..when she said there was a charge I thought maybe a fiver..nearly fell over at the desk!!!1

I think we had to pay 50 in total for all our passports!

changednametoprotecttheinnocen · 14/03/2006 11:09

do they pass on your medical history or write directly to the insurer? when i worked as an underwriter for life assurance (about 8 years ago) they used to charge us between £25 and £30 for info, but we used to pay for it, not the client

changednametoprotecttheinnocen · 14/03/2006 11:15

no...it is only to get to see an ostepath so she doesnt need to write a letter..she didnt ask me a question she just wrote one line and signed it..thats why I can't believe it...gp's (obviously not all..just the ones I have come across) have got such god complexs!!!!

OP posts:
alliebaba · 14/03/2006 11:18

that's hideous, you're right too, all going in her pocket! I got a printed letter saying my daughter was in good health, signed by the dr (for modelling, don't laugh!) and they didn't charge.. Bloody money grabbers

changednametoprotecttheinnocen · 14/03/2006 11:22

you'd think they got paid enough wouldn't you?

OP posts:
SorenLorensen · 14/03/2006 11:23

I'm definitely in the wrong line of work...

bundle · 14/03/2006 11:23

I think it's fair enough

changednametoprotecttheinnocen · 14/03/2006 11:26

?

OP posts:
bundle · 14/03/2006 11:29

to charge

changednametoprotecttheinnocen · 14/03/2006 11:30

am i missing the point then? are you married to a gp?

OP posts:
bundle · 14/03/2006 11:31

who me?

changednametoprotecttheinnocen · 14/03/2006 11:32

I am cross really because I am happy to use my private insurance ..I never go to the gp and I mean never and I dont get a sympathetic ear when I do go ..I just dont understand..

ALl the people that I know who are hypochondriacs get whatever they want!!!

OP posts:
changednametoprotecttheinnocen · 14/03/2006 11:32

yes to bundle

OP posts:
SenoraPostrophe · 14/03/2006 11:32

I don't really see the problem tbh.

bundle · 14/03/2006 11:33

what makes you think i'm married to a gp?

changednametoprotecttheinnocen · 14/03/2006 11:34

so you think its ok to charge someone who is happy not to drain NHS resources for a SIGNATURE to use private insurance?

OP posts:
changednametoprotecttheinnocen · 14/03/2006 11:36

bundle just because you think its ok...maybe I am being a big blinkered and as I said I do not ever use the doctors but I dont see how anyone would think it is ok to charge such an obscene amount for a signature

OP posts:
bundle · 14/03/2006 11:38

so - a waiting room full of people like you "just" seeking a signature, has no impact on appointments for people who are actually sick? go get a grip on reality...or pay for a private gp

SenoraPostrophe · 14/03/2006 11:39

can you get osteopathy on the nhs then?

bundle · 14/03/2006 11:44

i think you can, i spoke to someone nr london bridge who said you could

changednametoprotecttheinnocen · 14/03/2006 11:45

I didnt know private gps existed!?! to be honest so many people arent actually sick they lead crap lifesyles and are wasting doctors time trying to get antibiotics for colds should they have to pay for wasting time?
