hi - when am i supposed to stop steriling my dd bottles. she is 7 months old and puts everything in her mouth. it seems a little overkill now!?

I was told to sterilize bottles up until DD is one year old cos milk is harder to clean and teats are difficult to clean properly too. Bowls and beakers, etc dont need to be done after 6 months. It does seem a waste of time sterilizing and i know people that have stopped when they reach 6months and some dont bother doind it at all.

i stopped with ds1 at 7mths and with ds2 at 5 mths

I would say 6 months - anything over that is abit overkill. Children need to build up their immune systems and being too clean is doing more harm than good. f you have a good bottle brush etc then from 6 months it should be fine if you are happy that you have thoroughly cleaned and rinsed them.

Have never sterilised for dd as per link below. It's brill!! I just wash them thoroughly with hot water and washing up liquid, and scrub with bottle brush!!!

She's 5 months and she's been fine. Grin
