Ear piercing is infected - how do I get rid of it?

The hole in my ear lobe is weeping a little and the whole ear lobe is red and slightly swollen. Will it go away on it's own? Can I buy something from the chemist to get rid of it or do I need to go to the doctors?

Yes. Buy some surgical spirits if they'll sell you some, remove the earring and clean your ear and earring well. Clean the ear regularly for a couple of days, and see how it goes.

Available at chemists like boots or lloyds.

You can use a salt soak on it. Boil water, add small amount of sea salt, let cool to warm temp then either use an egg cup to dunk your ear or saturate a cloth/cotton wool and soak it. Twice a day should clear it up

I had the problem with some earrings once - the lobe went red and 'stiff' and pus oozed out. I put plain gold studs in, and spread savlon all round it. It cleared up quite quickly - was over 30 years ago and not had any problems since.
