diabetes and hairloss

Im really worried about my hairloss. It used to be very thick and you could hardly see my scalp for hair. Now the scalp obviously shines through. I have 2 sisters who are diabetic and it just occurred to me that maybe the hair thing could be an early symptom. Anyone had experience of this?

Could it be linked to thyroid levels? T1 diabetes is clustered with autoimmune illnesses such as coeliac and thyroid difficulties.

A blood test will give direction.

Fwiw my son has t1 and has not had hair issues.

I take thyroxine for underactive thyroid but doc says levels ok and wasnt really sympathetic to the hair thing. I know its all relative but I find it quite upsetting.

Get your ferritin and B12 and folate tested. If you are low in any of these, and with underactive thyroid you may well be, this will affect your hair growth.
