just been on the phone to peter. he has an wound on his chest from the LVAD op, it just wont heal, it has been dressed, treated swabbed, etc, it just wont heal. it cracks and bleeds, scabs over, starts to heal then does it again.

one of the docs saw him today and says they wont transplant him with this wound, and that he needs to grow up and be a man. he also needs to eat high protein foods like steak (!! where can he get steak from in the hospital, please tell me). Apparently she also said he is going to die. not sure if i belive that bit mind you, tho he says she said the same things to anaother patient. i am fuming!

The docs have been round as well, they say there is nothing to stop him being transplanted, the wound is being treated and isnt a problem. he is eating well, his albium levels are fine (37, target is 35 so thats good) and he is doing well exercising as well. he is progressing well.

That attitude is really disgusting,I am so glad you are helping peter to be strong enough to deal with it for the sake of the next poor soul! how aweful you should have to in the first place!

What an awful way to speak to a patient!

OMG! She sounds bonkers. And unpleasantly bonkers to boot. I've come across one or two horrendous medics (amongst loads of ok and several wonderful ones, thankfully) and they can do SO much damage; if that WAS an attempt at reverse psychology, it was an amateurish and crappy one, IMO.
I'm so glad the other doctor put some reality back in.

I'd say the money was being wasted on paying her!

You really must follow this up misdee, not only for Peter, but for other sick people who she treats badly, who don't have your support.

misdee, I've never spoken to you before but wanted to say I would be as well.
Please do complain - my dh is a doc, and always says you should complain as otherwise things will never change.
Hope the healing improves and he is feeling a bit better soon - I'm not sure what the problem is but my thoughts are with you all.

money being wasted? OMG. Can't believe she could actually say any of that. What an idiot. So sorry you had to go thru that. And as for hospital food - well, i'm speechless. Needs a real rethink so it can actually help patients recover, not aid debilitation.
