Hi All! First time poster and new Mum. My 2 week old girl (8lb 8oz) has Paronychia on middle finger which is red and down to the first knuckle. We saw emergency doctor (!!) who said "that looks sore" and prescribed antibiotics (erythromycin). The pharmacist then questioned the dosage and after discussion with a doctor and checking babies weight, reduced the dosage.

Having looked online this seems a common ailment and antibiotics the standard treatment but I am not keen on giving antibiotics to my newborn when only 2 weeks old. I did say this to the doctor and she said well I could wait 24 hours to see what happened first.

Has anyone any experience of this?? Thoughts about antibiotics etc?

Yes dd had this at 2 and it became quite serious she was hospitalised actually. I would stick like glue to the AB for the suggested dose and apply AB cream as well. It can spread to other parts of the skin and internalise so do give the medicine :)
