Nights can be busy for the staff in hospitals, and there's no ward clerk to answer the phone. He's in the right place, call them after 9.30 in the morning, but be aware that they won't be able to say much to you because of patient confidentiality. I'd leave a nice, supportive message on the ex's phone and wait for him to call you back.
