Help! Awful stomach cramps came on quickly and can't move

Feels like worst indigestion ever but haven't eaten since lunch
I'm not on any anti biotics or any other meds, have taken a ranitidine tablet and half a pint of gaviscon type stuff
Any ideas on what it is? I've had indigestion before but was more refluxy and had been eating and drinking. It came on in the space of 5 mins.

Now frantically self diagnosing, had a cheese sandwich for lunch which is rare as not a big cheese eater - could be gall stones? Or am I needing to get a grip?

where is the pain?

shrinkingnora · 07/08/2012 20:04

if it's gallstones ibuprofen can help. if it's a stomach ulcer then ibuprofen is not a good idea.

Northernlurker · 07/08/2012 20:05

How old are you?

Any pain anywhere else?

When was your last period?

chocolateteabag · 07/08/2012 20:15

It's in the middle below my rib cage
Period is just starting but it's not that low down
Have had appendix out years ago
I'm 36

So when you say that your period is starting you mean that you've got abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding? I think you need to go to hospital and have this checked. Is there anybody who can take you?

Northernlurker · 07/08/2012 20:18

Is you period bang on time or late btw?

chocolateteabag · 07/08/2012 20:20

But pain is high up just below rib cage (ie I think it's my actual stomach) as opposed to lower down womb like pai
DS is 21 months, it's nothing like a labour type pain apart from the intensity
Bleeding is just the star of my normal period I think

Pretty much bang on time for perid too

Pain has started to ease off now - started around 6.30 ish
Still feeling like stomach is sore - like after a really bad vomiting session and it feels wrung out?
So maybe just bad indigestion and I'm just a wuss?

OP posts:
Northernlurker · 07/08/2012 20:29

Hmmm well if it's easing off and you feel a bit better then just keep an eye on things but don't hesitate to get to docs if it returns. There's lots of things it could be but the thing I was worrying about is ectopic pregnancy and that's not something you want to muck around with so if the pain comes back get ye to A&E!

Am now reading NHS details on biliary colic - really ought to stop!

chocolateteabag · 07/08/2012 20:39

Thanks northern, DH and I have been super careful recently so really don't think it's an EP as not low down enough.
Will take the Gaviscon to bed tonight I think

Might be gall stones. Does the pain come in sort of waves or is it constant?

MadgeHarvey · 07/08/2012 22:28

That's exactly where my gallbladder pain is and it's a classic symptom. Can only suggest GP ASAP - hope you feel better

shrinkingnora · 08/08/2012 13:18

Sounds very much like biliary colic caused by gallstones. Go to the GP and hopefully they'll refer you for an ultrasound.
