Night sweats post partum - anyone had these?

Dd2 was born 12 days ago (ELCS), and for the past few nights, I've been waking up in the early hours drenched in sweat. A quick google suggests that this is to do with hormone levels returning to normal. I'm exclusively breast feeding. Has anyone else had this, and is there anything I can do about it? It's driving me mad, as if having a newborn wasn't enough to disrupt my sleep! Not sure if it's relevant, but I developed an under active thyroid during pregnancy, & am still on thyroxine, to be reviewed at 6 weeks. I intend to ask my obstetrician about this, but he's currently away, & I would really appreciate any advice in the meantime.

I have had this for 20 weeks so far and went to the GP last week as I thought I must have something wrong with me before I googled my symptoms. Big mistake the GP (not my usual one) told me it was very unusual and she didn't know what was causing it so sent me for some blood tests and told me to make another appointment.

I then came home and googled it and discovered that it is very common so I have no idea why she didn't know about it, I explained to her that it started as soon as I had DD etc.

I have made a follow up appointment with my usual GP as I want to know what the blood test results are and to see if he knows of it.

Thanks for your post whoop. What a lot of unnecessary worry for you. It does seen from the replies on this thread to be quite common. I intend to discuss it with my ob/gyn at my 6 weeks check (if I'm still suffering from them then), so I'll report back what he says (he's very good).

sorry to resurrect - I could have written the original post!

hi petite, just wondered if all was ok and settled down for you?

I too am on thyroxine and had an emcs 17 days ago but my thyroid was all over the place in pregnancy so I'm not back to my normal dose (125) which is what usually happens apparently, am still on 150 and am having nights where I'm drenched in sweat -wwondering whether to ask for a thyroid check or wait the usual 6 weeks. last time I had this sort of sweating when not pregnant I was on too much thyroxine. I'm also ebf but finding it hard to nap when ds does (not sleeping was another symptom I had when on too much thyroxine) again could it be post preg stuff or too much thyroxine?

i had this for about 5 months each time. i actually sweated through the mattress protector and towel and ended up permanently staining the mattress. bleurgh! i went to the GP in the end and they sent me for a lung x ray to check i didn't have TB!!

it is awful and you have my absolute sympathies.

my god! I'm not that bad so it's probably as the original op decided and just post preg purging :)
