Coat the underside of your nose now with Vaseline to avoid a red, raw look on the day. Same for your lips. Forget the whiskey - drink juice and water and get lots of sleep. Anytime you can, go to sleep. Hopefully you'll wake up on Friday feeling human. Try paracetomol with caffeine on the day.

thank you. sob.

It's hell, I know. Now go to sleep (with whiskey if that helps, just wash it down with water or juice).

These sorts of situations are what MAC make-up was created for, methinks.

Gargle with salt water for the sore throat. I have had similar thing this week and it really helped along with alternating paracetamol and ibuprofen.

Sorry you're feeling rubbish, hope you feel better.

Try loads of tropicana orange juice.May be a bit late at this stage. All the best for friday.

I usually get over colds quite quickly.

I avoid any of the over the counter cold remedies as I find they tend to make a cold linger (perhaps by suppressing symptoms?)

I up my vitamins and echinacea (sp?) and drink lots of fluid.

I take paracetamol if necessary.

headfairy · 02/08/2012 20:43

Ditto not drinking too much Whiskey. It'll dehydrate you making you feel worse. One or two is fine, but no more. Take a berrocca once a day and drink plenty of fluids. Take some cold and flu remedy with a decongestant (like Lemsip capsules or Sudofed) and get plenty of sleep. You'll be fine.

get some oil of oregano from the health food store (the wild kind), it's in a little dropper, it's nasty tasting, but works wonders for sore throats. I also take these vitamin c dissolvables in a glass of water, about 1000mg they are whcih seems to help ward off colds for me.

Liquids, then if still symptoms on the day sudafed, ibuprofen/paracetomol.

headfairy · 06/08/2012 11:21

OP did you manage to fend off the cold for the wedding?

JoyceDivision · 10/08/2012 18:00

Yes, thank you! The worse had passed, I used vaseline to stop red nose, abandned the whisky and drank loads of fluids.. I was an excellent bridesmain, even if I may say so myself, and after about 9 I clocked off my bridesmaid duties and got exceptionally drunk (my friend showed me her hubbys pics at the w'end and I weed a bit laughing) and got home, chased dh round the house, threw up, and apparanetly chased dh some more including lying flat on him like a plank of wood attempting to seduce him smelling of boozy sick!

You're like a much better version of NHS Direct, you lot Grin
