LillyPink · 07/03/2006 12:54

Sorry I don't know anything about kidney function tests. Poor ds - hope he is Ok soon...

yes i think it is the one where they put dye into him, he had that done earlier and now due to go back for the scan

The dye shows up really well on an xray. They will probably be looking for any narrowing and also how well the kidney flows whether there are any blockages etc it is not painful at all

if it is a renogram they put they die in then give him lot of water and sometimes medicine that will make his kidneyw work quicker.

I have a lot of kidney problems and have this done every few years. The test (if it is a renogram) is supposed to last for an hour, I needed to pee so muc on the last one I lasted 20 mins. he has to lye wquite still and it can be a wee bit uncomfortanble, just if he needs to pee! how old is ds?

chapsmum · 07/03/2006 13:17

sorry let me correct myself there that is what they did for me last time. I belive for peadiatric renograms they inject then wait for it to 'get ' into the kidneys.
They then scan and it will take between 30-60 mins.

Been there, DS had bilateral hydronephrosis and had to have a ureter detached and reattached at 5 months. Even with reduced function at an early age it can always improve as they grow, eg early scarring and stuff. Best of luck with your results.
