i'm on a course of erythromicin for sinusitus but am going to a wedding tomorrow and would like a few drinks . asked dr if it was ok to drink and he said yes as he was sure i wasn't going to over indulge - as i don't get out much i would actually quite like to partake in a bit of overindulgence but not sure how far i can go? - don't want to sound like a sad alki, but has anyone got any advice?

The worst that will happen is it will make your antibiotics a bit less effective and you will basically be a cheap day out.I would just stay moderate and pace yourself a bit .

thought so, i'm due to finish them on sunday anyway, but just wanted to check that there'd be no horrific side effects!

you should never drink whilst taking flagyl or metrnidazole, it can produce a very bad reaction. antibiotics lower your tollerance for alcohol and my make you feel drunk quicker

It depends on the antibiotic. For the vast majority there is no effect at all. This a common;y held misconception. THere are specific antibiotics that you *shouldn't drink with, and these will be labeled.

I am unaware of studies that show that antibiotics affect the absorbtion or toleration of alcohol.
