Joint pain following flu symptoms

I can't sleep, and I thought I would post more as a way of capturing what is going on, but if anyone can share any experiences I would also be grateful.

We are on holiday at the moment, in France. Last Saturday, I came down with really bad flu symptoms, severe headache, shivering, really bad joint pain all over, weakness, dizziness, phlegmy couugh. Pain so bad I was in tears. I was so bad I went to the doctor on Monday, Who said he thought it was flu, and gave me some medication including antibiotics, and also some steroid stuff for my joints, pneumerol 80 and prend-something.

I don't think it was in fact flu, as I felt much better by Tuesday, which makes me think it was a bacterial infection which responded well to the abs. I still have awful pain though, in my elbows, wrists, ankles, knees, neck and back, fingers. I also have really bad carpal tunnel syndrome in my left hand, hence not being able to sleep.

I am really worried that I am going to be left with some awful post-viral condition.

Arthritis maybe !

Could you have been bitten by anything? I am thinking of of ticks. Have a good look all over and see if there is a bite anywhere.

Have you been out in woodland at all?

You should probably go back to the doctor.

I had post-viral rheumatoid arthritis in 2005 and was told at the clinic that the body sometimes reacts this way.

It did settle down.

Book an appointment with the GP, who will probably refer you for tests.

I hope things improve soon,OP

My GP told me a few years ago that joint pain can often follow a cold. I have had the same as has my DD. It went after a while and doesn't happen after every cold.

Have been to the GP, who has taken blood for tests. She said that sometimes viruses result in joint pain for a while, which usually clears up, although she also said viruses can trigger arthritis, which is what I am worried about.

I still feel awful - extremely tired, headachy, and sore elbows, wrists and fingers. It has been a real struggle to get through work the last 2 days.

The fact that I responded quite well to the antibiotics suggests that it wasn't a virus, but who knows.

3littlefrogs - no, no bites of any kind.
Weaselm and cahu, glad to hear yours settled down after a while.
