Dd has raging ear ache, any tips?

Shes in so much pain, Calpol doesn't seem to be touching it and cant see a doctor until this evening.

you can give nurofen together with calpol if she is over 6 months

Would echo Enid's calpol and ibuprofen together, its the only thing that touches earache imo. And keep it topped up or you'll be back to square one again!

Definitely Nurofen as it contains an anti inflammatory as well as pain killer.

My sister suffered with earache terribly as a child and she recommends putting a bit of cotton wool in the ear (not IN the ear, but just over the hole, IYKWIM) and taking the calpol & Ibuprofen. Said hte cotton wool sort of warmed the area and it hurt less.

Do you have a hot water bottle of wheat bag you can wrap in a pillowcase and get her to lie the sore ear down onto it,the heat helps immensely

I second Loobie. I used to get terrible earache as a small child and distinctly remember the comfort of lying with my head on a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel.

Hopefully after a good night's sleep all the gunky wax will come out - my dd1 gets terrible earache and the Nurofen is definately the way to go.

Earache is truly horrible, poor dd.

Best to get the doc to hve a wee look in his ears, if it is just wax you can put some olive oil or almond oil in the ear whilst he lies on his side and rub the back of the ear gently. If you drop it in from a warmed teaspoon it can be very soothing.

can you tilt her bed up a bit so she is not lying flat. I found it hurt my ds more when he was lying down and propping his cot up with a few books under the legs at the top end helped ease the pressure in his ears

Thanks all she has a really bad ear infection and has to have a course of antibiotics. the ibruprofen has kicked in now so she should have a few hours peace, poor little mite.
