Pulled the garage door down hard on myself hitting my head and the top surface of my shoulder.

Have a burning pain over the end of my collarbone. First thing I thought was 'shit that's my collar bone gone' and I cried with the pain but I'm a wuss.

An hour later and it still burns a bit. I have prodded bone and although I initially thought I could feel a boney lump I now think I was imagining it.

My arm hurts to move away from my body but again may be being a bit over cautious cos I know it hurts.

I just find it a bit odd that I have a burning sensation in a location which is different from the point of contact IYSWIM.

I broke my collar bone when I was younger and no one noticed for a week

Beamur · 10/07/2012 19:30

You might not know you had. Get it checked.

EclecticShock · 10/07/2012 19:32

It might just be a crack, get it checked it call nhs direct for advice.

HauntedLittleLunatic · 10/07/2012 19:36

Ok. My walk-in has an x-ray machine operating during 'office hours'.

I will go down tomorrow morning if still painful.

Go even if it isnt painful,to be on the safe side.

gingeroots · 10/07/2012 19:42

possibly something muscular/tendon related .
not being able to move arm away from body might suggest that .

I'm another one who wandered around with an un-noticed broken collar bone as a child (unfortunate incident with DB's skateboard). It really hurt when I first did it, but it quickly subsided into a dull ache. Didn't affect movement and only knew something was wrong when it healed into a funny lump.

Fingers crossed this hasn't happened to you, but I'm another one voting for get it checked out.

RockinD · 10/07/2012 21:17

I broke my collar bone as an adult - I have never felt pain like it.

They had to cut my clothes off me - there was no way I could move enough to get a jumper off.

As to yours, if in doubt get it checked.

This the thing it is not as painful as I would have expected. The only reason I thought about it was because in the moments after injury my first thought was 'oh [insert string of expletives] I've cracked my collar bone.

In terms of how o feel now...the only thing that 'worries' me is that the position of the pain being different to the point of contact. The impact was on the top of my shoulder. The pain is in the front of my shoulder. In line with my armpit but over the end of my collar bone if that makes sense.

I seem to have full if painful movement in my arm. It doesn't seem to be too painful to touch collar bone - only the top of my shoulder where it is bruised from impact.

I broke my collar bone as a child and no-one realised until an xray a year later !! One shoulder is lower than the other, but apart from that , all was fine

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/07/2012 21:42

I had a patient who broke his ankle and walked on it for 3 weeks. never noticed a thing until he thought the pain wasnt going down (slipped off kerb) so he went to the gp.

ICutMyFootOnOccamsRazor · 10/07/2012 21:48

I broke my collarbone at some point during my childhood. Neither I nor anyone else remembers anything about it. I only found out when I went for an x-ray for something unrelated years later.

firsttimemama · 10/07/2012 21:59

I fractured mine as an adult and didn't realise until two or three or maybe four days later. It was a dull ache that got more and more sore and when it wasn't going away I thought I'd better get an Xray.

trixymalixy · 10/07/2012 22:04

Interesting. I've been wondering whether I have broken my collar bone. It started in March and was quite painful to move my arm above my head for ages. It has got a lot better, but I still get a twinge every so often. I really should have gone to the doctor about it, but I never got round to it.

HauntedLittleLunatic · 11/07/2012 12:11

I phoned walk in to see what time they switch on the machine. Told them what I had described and they told me that they wouldn't x-ray unless they saw an obvious deformity or I squealed lots when they prodded the bone in triage. Aparently cos the bone is so close to the surface it would hurt like buggery to be touched.

Have been told to review in 3 days if still no better.

Everyone is different but I must say that personally with my frozen shoulder + bursitis + tendonitis ,I have to keep stopping myself when I frequently think " god ,it feels like a broken collarbone " .

So if xray not forthcoming or shows no broken bones ,don't rule out a pulled muscle or tendon .

Jules1966s · 25/06/2018 06:13

I have been having shoulder pain for two months went in for xrays and have fractured collarbone. I am totally shocked I don't remember any incident I just thought I had pulled muscle or slept on it wrong but has just been getting worse.

JohnHunter · 25/06/2018 08:20

I am totally shocked I don't remember any incident I just thought I had pulled muscle or slept on it wrong but has just been getting worse Hmm!! Has anyone provided an explanation as to why this has happened? Is it really a new injury? Have you been seen in a fracture clinic?
