DD is 6mo and has tonsillitis. she has just been prescribed penicillin in the form of a bright orange medicine and no matter how i try and give it to her she is nearly always sick. i have tried oral syringe, medicine spoon and weaning spoon. i have also tried giving her calpol/ibuprofen on the end of her dummy and my finger with the same result. have tried giving very slowly in tiny amounts and giving all at once. i am now about out of ideas.

has anyone had this problem? i'm thinking it's something to do with the strong taste as she is only used to breast milk and baby rice with a bit of pear. she's also a bottle refuser and hasn't quite figured out a sippy cup yet so i'm a bit stuck.... also it says to take it on an empty stomach so i cant put it with her baby rice either. any advice appreciated!

Does she have a point in her sleep cycle where she's very soundly asleep? If so, gently syringe it in then. Obviously you have to do it slowly so they don't choke, but it's all that worked with my DS. You have to gently sit them up a bit, so it's a palaver..!

hmm i might give that a go, she is sleeping in her rocking chair atm as she's too bunged up to sleep properly lay down so the sitting up shouldn't be a problem.
she does get quite agitated when we give it to her as well, which doesn't help.
