DD has had a virus the last couple of days - snotty nose, bit of a temperature at first, probably sore throat (as I now have one !). Most symptoms now gone - still slight snotty but back to her old self and hasn't had a temp for over 24 hours. This afternoon I noticed a slight rash on her legs - red pin pricks, a couple with little white heads on. It blanches so presume nothing horrific. Afte her bath it was much redder and showed up on her arms. I kept her unclothed to cool down and it went down on her arms and reduced on her legs but is still there. So, any ideas anyone please ?

heat rash? flea bites? i think sometimes it can just be a side effect of a virus

LIZS · 01/03/2006 19:42

Most likely a n other viral rash but equally could it be a form of excema or allergic reaction to something. Did you give Nurofen for the temperature as ds always used to get a rash with that.

managed to post this twice - oops - the closest thing it looks like is heat rash but can't really see a reason for it. She has had post-viral rashes before so did assume this when it started but then got worried when it got worse but think the heat of the water aggravated it !! Guess I just wanted someone to say it could be a side effect of the virus so thanks !!

oh that's interesting Lizs - I did but last dose was 24 hours ago. How soon does your ds get a rash from it ?

calpol can produce a rash too

Hazellnut · 01/03/2006 19:46

she's had a bit of that too but that was 48 hours ago !

is it at tops of legs and tops of arms on the sides?

LIZS · 01/03/2006 19:49

It was fairly soon afterwards, defintiley before a second dose was due. He seems to have outgrown it now , or perhaps he tolerates one flavour better than another.

Hazellnut · 01/03/2006 19:52

Kidstrack - no, its lower legs mainly although up all her legs and over her bottom (assumed that bit was nappy rash as thats what it looked like) and then her arms that went in the water (so up to just above elbow probably).

She is a bit prone to rashes - I assume she is teething at the mo and has rashes round the mouth too but she normally gets those with teeth.

mmm, might be viral or as you say teething, a few friends babies have developed excema around the same time of their first teeth appearing

Hazellnut · 01/03/2006 20:05

I don't think its excema (its also not her first teeth - she does have 4 at the age of 13 months... a bit slow !!)......

But thanks - will assume its viral but if no better in the morning will go to docs.

the chap had this with a viral infection, it was an uricarial rash. similar to an allergic reaction. Is basically hives but is assosiated with childrens viral infection, heat makes it worse. If she's old (one pus) enough piriton will help, if not medised will do. Don't be surprised if it takes a while to clear up, the chap had his for 9 days but only when he got up and after naps!

hope the spots go soon!

chapsmum · 01/03/2006 20:07

urticarial, sorry!

Hazellnut · 01/03/2006 20:13

thanks chapsmum - will try piriton tomorrow if its still up !
