going to fracture clinic on mon for more xrays I think, its been in a splint since last tues, but it still really hurts and I have still got pretty much constant pins and needles, I keep using it a bit becasue I think it is ok and then it hurts like hell for the rest of the day. they said its a possible fracture but nothing showed up on the xrays, I am really hoping it is sprained but as time is moving on I am starting to think it is more and more likely that it is fractgured. I really dont want a cast, does anyone know if they will cast it. Iam kind of preparing myself for the worse and starting to resally worry about what is going to happen now.

did you not get it checked after dd kicked it? I thought from that thread that it was broken?

GrapesAnatomy · 06/07/2012 18:08

Cast depends on where you have fractured it. You might end up having a hinged brace like my friend's son who injured near his elbow, they like to keep the arm moving in that case.
I also hate to state the obvious but STOP USING IT! If it is fractured you could cause more damage. It takes 6 weeks (ish) for bones to heal so if it does need plastering expect it to be for that long. Good luck on Monday, do take drinks, books etc to fracture clinic, I haven't been to one for less than 2 1/2 hours yet Shock

probably broken, based on swelling an dpain but not proved as doesnt show up on xrays for a week to ten days, no idea why, something to do with calcification, no I didnt end up going as I couldnt face another 3 hour sat around when I have an appointment on mon which kept getting closer iyswim.

They did say it is to be treated as broken, I have made up the sprained bt in my head becasue I want it not to be broken, thinking about it nobody has mention sprained at all. I always assumed it would need to be in a cast staright aay but apparently it doesnt start healing traight away and casting it when it is really swollen can be bad. I must confess though that most of my knowledge is internet acquired.

you really shpould have got it checked out, im a bit shocked you got a blow to a arm that is being treated as broken a week ago and you did not get it looked at.

Good luck today Dita - let us know what they say. Have a think beforehand if you want a coloured cast what colour you want Wink I saw a very natty purple one the other day.
