Can a few people pretend to me that I'm not going to feel really sick or be sick taking Metronidazole please?

I have an abscess in my gum. I was very brave and went to the dentist.

I've just takeny first one after food and with a whole glass of water. As it says I should

I'm an emetophobe with a panic disorder.

Please tell me I won't be sick

I was on metronidizol AND an IV antibiotic a while back for a bad infection (long story) for a week; I felt pretty rough on them but at no point was I physically sick. On the plus side I looked like I'd lost about ten stone afterwards (every cloud and all that!).

You've taken it as directed, and you've already been very brave going to the dentist.

I'm sure you'll be fine and sick free Trinity :)

LoveAndOtherIndoorSports · 05/07/2012 14:20

DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL

Then you'll be fine.

ThoughtBen10WasBadPokemonOMG · 05/07/2012 14:20

I also had it with another anti-b. I didn't feel sick, just rough. I wasn't sick.

You will be sick if you drink any alcohol with it. Avoid alcohol for a few days after finishing the course too.

Hope you feel better soon.

TrinityIsAFuckingRhino · 05/07/2012 17:29

Still feeling fine and hungry. Definitely won't be drinking.
Should save some money Grin

I've had them a couple of times. Never felt ill, except sick with rage at not being able to drink for a week.

poppedoutforapintofmilk · 05/07/2012 19:34

Had it about 4 times and never been sick. And usually I get any/every side effect going with every drug I take. Very bad headaches and weird taste in my mouth and generally a bit grotty but not sick. Erythromycin and penicillin make me thrown up dreadfully. Good luck. You should be OK

PUMBA · 05/07/2012 20:42

my daughter has just finished a month of metronidazole she said her tummy felt a bit gurgly but not sick and she is the queen of vomiting !!!!!!!!!!!!!

TrinityIsAFuckingRhino · 05/07/2012 22:06

Oh thankyou so much all of you
I've taken my second one after my tea with a full glass of water and all seems fine.

Pumba, I felt a little gurgly earlier but not sick. I can cope with that Grin

I'm currently on day six of a course......(also for dental problems). Like popped out - bit headachy nit need painkillers for the toothache anyway so that helps); metallic taste in mouth and just started feeling a bit bilious but haven't been sick.

TrinityIsAFuckingRhino · 05/07/2012 23:39

Thanks starfish. I'm feeling a lot less panicky about it now. Not feeling sick but a but gurgly. Bit of a headache but have been headachy for a few days on and off so may be nothing to do with it.

Had this recently with another antibiotic. Never felt sick at all. As others have said, definitely do not drink any alcohol at all whilst you are on them and for 48 hours afterwards. I certainly sat up and took notice when the pharmacist told me to even avoid mouthwash due to the alcohol in it!

FairyBasslet · 06/07/2012 17:11

Sorry, to clarify, I had Metronidizal and co-amoxiclav at the same time.

Nenufar · 06/07/2012 17:13

I have had metronidazole several times for dental probs. It's never made me feel sick at all. I took it with food.

oshuk · 08/07/2012 08:40

I've never been ill and had it for different conditions. Whatever you do, don't drink any alcohol at all. It can make you very ill if you do. Interesting about the mouthwash FairyBasslet. Will remember that as bound to have more teeth problems.

Hooleywhipper · 08/07/2012 19:59

Had it twice been fine both times,no side effects but do not drink at all not a drop while on them
Get well soon

Hooleywhipper · 08/07/2012 20:00

Sorry Oshuk didn't see your post, oops

tallulahturtle · 08/07/2012 21:42

I'm emetophobic and had to really pluck up the courage to take it when I had a tooth infection. I took it with food and plenty of water and felt fine ,but did a lot of research on it and deffo don't drink while on it or for 48 hours after finishing it.

sashh · 09/07/2012 03:49

I'll just repeat DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL.

If you are emetophobic could you ask your Dr for an wntiemetic?

I had some when I had D and V because I need to take 10 pills a day and I was throwing them up.

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 09/07/2012 03:56

DP's had it in the past. She has the most sensitive stomach going but wasn't sick. Hope your abscess is better soon, Trinity.
