Whatever you do don't drink ANY alcohol while taking these or for 3 days after stopping or you will be very ill

I have had them for severe infection before with Crohn's Disease, no side effects at all (other than boredom due to lack of wine Grin)

Obv there is a list of potential side effects as long as your arm but there are for other antibs as well.

Google Flagyl and you will find

can be the cause of, um, uncomfy tummy (DH had it for a amoebic gut infection so was upset already, but definitely made it worse before it was better)
I'd recommend probiotics or live yoghurt to stop it wiping out your normal flora.

alibubbles · 01/03/2006 10:37

It makes me violently ill, within hours!

nailpolish · 01/03/2006 10:42

agree about the alcohol, dont even attempt to drink any

i was px this for strep B, i was so ill for days, couldnt even finish the course. had terrible stomach pains and cramps, was extremely nauseus .

its not like this for everyone though, you might be ok

follow the intstructions on the bottle (ie if it says take on an empty/full stomach make sure you stick to it) i think its empty?????????????

wilbur · 01/03/2006 10:44

I have just finished a course of this - got a slightly upset tummy but then I do with all antibiotics. Def take some probiotics to keep thingvs balanced. Also, I had about a quarter of a glass of champagne to celebrate a friend's birthday while I was taking it - vv bad idea [extreme nausea emoticon].

Boopert · 01/03/2006 10:47

I was on these one christmas. Needles to say i got vvvv ill at works do and made a total dick of meself! Grin

prettybird · 01/03/2006 10:48

Re-iterate the point about the "no alcohol": I got told by my GP friends that this is that same stuff that they give alcholics to ensure that they won't drink as they'll be so sick!

Boopert · 01/03/2006 10:50

Well i can guarantee it works bloody well!
That was the only side effect for me thou.

noddyholder · 01/03/2006 11:05

I have had one so far and feel ok.Also have to continue with amoxil at the same time so better not venture too far! The pain from the tooth is so bad that any side effects will be worth it.I am going to get dosed up with codeine now and go to bed for a few hours Thanks for all your messages I have never been in so much pain Big warning to all go to the dentist at the first sign of a twinge DON'T WAIT!!

I took two course of these back to back alongside amoxycillan and had no side effects. It didn't completely stop the pain but it did but an end to the excruiating pain I was having from my tooth abscess (worse than labour I reckon!)

You should start to feel better quite quickly.

You need to avoid all alcohol, not just drinks, I had it when I had an infected wisdom tooth, and I was using mouthwash and strepsils (had a sore throat) the alcohol in strepsils/mouthwash was enough to make me sick, horrible. They worked though.
