morning all, i trust all is well. Quick question for you out there. DD has her injections today and i was wondering when the best time to give her calpol was? half an hour before she has them , an hour, or is it best to leave it till after? I have to be there for 11 10 so doesnt leave much time!

I always left it until after. DS2 never had a reaction at all to his jabs, and DS1 only had a mild one.

Good luck, I always hated the jabs, but the boys never really noticed much. (Are you breastfeeding? If so, be ready to feed right after the jab, it calms them down very well.)

from a pain killing pint of view, would say half and hour to an hourbefore, from a fever point of veiw the fever usually comes 3-5 hours after. With My ds I gave the calpol to him as soon as we got home.
IMO it is prob best to wait till after as for immusisation puposes a young baby should only have two doses and I felt it best to "keep" a dose for him to take before bed.

Good luck and dont look( it looks worse than it is)!!

Cool thanks ladies.......hmmmmm so...before or after lol.. i think i will gaugue her mood half an hour before we go, if shes grumpy ( she had a bad night) she gets it before!!!

I'd say after -she may not need it at all. Or she may get a tiny bit feverish, in which case having two doses to hand is reassuring.

Hopefully the injections themselves won't cause pain - my doctor was so very quick and expert it was over in an instant. I think its more the shock that makes the baby react (though ds barely even noticed the 2nd and 3rd set).

Good luck, sure she'll be fine.

left it till after Grin she was asleep when we went and was rudely woken by the jabs!! poor wee thing, still she went to sleep after and we went for a brisk sunny [but windy] walk. got home had a good feed and some calpol and shes now playing happily on her gym mat. Thanks for your thoughts ladies! Smile

My old hv always advised giving calpol after the injection, after I got home with my lo.
