Abnormal smear, HPV infection and upcoming colposcopy

Hi, just in need of a bit of hand holding whilst I play the waiting game really.

I received my results letter on Saturday, and was hugely taken aback to read it Sad.

Just feeling scared and apprehensive about it all.

I am also pretty shocked about the HPV infection and am not sure how to handle the subject with my current BF. Has anyone been through a similar issue?

No, but I know lots of others who have and were absolutely fine.

Just tell him you have had an abnormal smear and need his support. If he's worth anything as a boy friend, he should be there for you.

Many people have HPV without ever knowing it - do not think of it as a typical STD. Did they send you a leaflet with your result?

basic info here

These days the Colposcopy appts come through quickly, and results from those are fast too, so you won't have months of waiting for results, and IF you need further treatment it can all be dealt with very fast and you then may be sent for Annual smears for the next few years to be extra safe.

Good luck

Rest assured, if it was a seriously abnormal result you would be in much quicker.

Hope it all goes well.
