I have just had my top brace taken out about 2 weeks ago and have been given a retainer to wear, I just wanted to ask does it always feel this tight? Will it fit better in a few days when my teeth move back into place? Should I try and force it on fully, or will it do this naturally?Any advice would be apreciatedx

Hi Ive had fixed braced for 2 years then a retainer for a year ( this was a few years back)
Yes it does feel very tight, but gets better after a while.Push it on fully, so the wire is even across your teeth. The thing I hated the most was the mouth plate, and I had a lisp for about 3 months !! Good Luck with it :)

My DD has top & bottom retainers. Had to wear them all the time for a short while, then at night only, and is now weaning off them (1 night on, 1 off , then 2 off 1 on etc)

They were awkward for the first few days. Your teeth do move between no brace & retainer fitted. If it doesn't feel ok after a week or so would get it checked.

My DD age 10 has had a top retainer for 10 months then was weaned of it when her teeth had pushed back far enough. Unfortunately they sprung back out again so she had to wear it again to push them back in. She's now wearing it at night only as a preventative measure. It always felt tight for her at first as it was pushing against her teeth but once the teeth went back a little the tightness and achiness subsided after 48 hours. What the dentist used to tell us after each tightening was that if the aching carried on for longer than 48 hours we must take her back as it probably meant that he had tightened it up too much.
