Do I go to A&E??

Sorry this probably doesn't belong here but wanted to get quick replies.

Long story very short, Been having weird neurological symptoms for months including weakness in my hand and legs. I attended A&E last weekend on advice of out of ours GP. They wanted to keep me but I was reluctant. They agreed to let me home as long as I went back if symptoms worsten. They also said they'd contact my GP to get her to arrange an urgent MRI scan. I then have an appointment with neurologist on 24th July.

Anyhows, today I can't lift my left leg up off the bed at all when it is straight. I can sort of walk on it once I manage to drag myself up. I can also bend my knee and bend my leg up towards my body.

My left thumb isn't bending very well either.

Do I go back to A&E today or just wait for out patients MRI which I don't yet have an appointment for. I really really don't want to stay in hospital over night.

Thanks for updating, I was wondering how you were doing. Here's hoping you get some answers soon.
Get someone to smuggle you in some decent food Grin xx

Memoo · 26/06/2012 08:56

Getting dh to smuggle some decent food in is my number one priority :) he's bringing me a flask of decent coffee too, I'm getting withdrawal symptoms!

Had the worse nights sleep. There is a poor lady who has been shouting all night. She is a bit confused about what is going on and so is understandably upset :(

Hi memoo. Still in there? Are they at least making progress (ruling things out?)

Are you feeling ok?

Memoo · 27/06/2012 17:10

I'm still her and not doing too bad :)

I had the MRI but the consultant neurologist is only here mondays and Thursday's so I have to wait until tomorrow until he has looked at the results.

I've seen the physio too who has been helping try and get my left leg moving again. I've kind of been dragging it behind me. I'm on the stroke ward now although I've not had a stroke but all the physios and OTs are here so have lots of support. All the staff on here are lovely tbh. Apart from the neurologist who made me cry after I saw him the other day, honestly I've not cried so hard in a long time. He just a bit tactless.

I'm in my own room too which is fab as it means the kids can visit lots without disturbing other patients.

Dh is bringing me a potato salad and some salmon for tea. I wish he'd hurry up though I'm starving!!!

Hope it's nothing serious and you get sorted out asap

Madsometimes · 27/06/2012 20:11

Good luck for getting your MRI results tomorrow, and I'm glad you are in your own room now. It can be very hard to get sleep when there are confused patients on the ward. I'm guessing that you are the youngest patient on your ward by quite a long way, which can be quite daunting.

I'm sorry the neurologist was tactless, hopefully the consultant will have better people skills.

Enjoy your home cooked food. It will taste better than ever if you are starving Smile.

Quick update. Off home soon Grin

MRI was inconclusive but there is nothing like a tumour or bleed. Will be seeing the neurologist as an out patient in a few weeks and he is going to keep an eye on my symptoms.

I'll also be seeing the physio to get my leg moving better.

Can't wait to sleep on my own bed with my lovely, snuggling two year old dd cuddled up to me :)
