DS still has a temperature......

Went to the docs on Thursday after having a temp of 103.5 and being sick once. Doc said it was this virus that has been going around. (He has had it already but she said that lots of people kept getting it back).

Friday morning woke with a temp of 105.3 - it yoyo'd again throughout the day again. Settled in the evening.

This morning again woke with a temp of 105.4. Again we got it to come down. It crept up, we cooled him down etc etc.

Other than a really snotty nose he has no other symptoms (well, maybe really bad wind ).

Id be worried if i couldnt get the temp to come down. But i dont understand why its still creeping up 3 days later.........

Is he managing to drink anything and eat?

Probably because infections take time to go away! Think about when you are poorly, often it takes several days for the body to overcome it. In children it tends to take less time and yet they are more prone to dramatic rises in temp. His temp is still very high though. how often are you taking temps?

How have you been managing so far to reduce his temperature? Calpol? Ibuprofen?

My DS had this for over a week! Kept dosing him with Calpol and Neurofen.

It is a very nasty virus! DS was unlucky enough to get the D&V first immediately followed by the sore throat and cough - poor thing has been ill for 2 weeks now.

The temps were very high if left unmedicated so I do understand how concerned you are

Viral things can take up to 5 days with high temps. I rang our docs about it once because I was worried about giving Nurofen etc for more than the 3 days mentioned on the pack. GP said it was OK to go over the 3 days (because ds was well in himself as long as I could keep his temp down). I'd follow your instincts on this though. He should gradually improve so if he seems to be getting worse it's time to see a doctor.

He is eating a little and b/feeding. He is struggling with b/feeding because of his really snotty nose. He keeps choking and gagging.

You might be right floss. Its just my experience of DD being ill the temp would normally last 24-48 hours tops.

This has been 72 hours now. There are no other apparent symptoms apart from what ive already said.

See how it is tomorrow. As you said you get a better service from your out of service docs than the proper ones so try then rather than wait for Monday!

Am giving both calpol and ibuprofen.

He is quite lethargic (compared to normal....but i guess that is to be expected) and occasionally "spaces out".

When he "spaces out" does he go floppy? If he does I would inclined to get him seen. Could be a nasty virus causing the problem, but better safe than sorry. Hope he gets well soon.

Agree with flossam about the out of hours service. I asked about the feeding with regards to dehydartion.
Not sure how old your little one is but there are infant decongestant nasal drops you can give that work wonders, ask at the chemist if no luck get in touch with a gp through the out of hours service.
The main thing is that you can bring down his temperature and that he's getting plenty of fluids....concerns with either of them two, again see a doctor.
