how awful for you.
i suffer from this a lot too. but find that antibiotics arent the solution. the state you are in, i would reccomend lots of painkillers.
also, tie a scarf really tightly round your forehead. it gets at the pressure points. and i find really helps with the pain.
steam is a good one,
wearing a hat, all the time if you have too. not particularly stylish, but it stops the killer headaches.
lots of sympathy.

Oh, it's horrible. Feels like you want to drill your face open to relieve the pressure. Ms Wong recommends hot hot hot shower and eat hot buttered toast with crushed garlic cloves on it. Before shower, not whilst in it! Sounds good anyway. Try Olbas oil in a cup, put boiling water on it and instantly inhale teh steam through your nose - whichever side most affected. Helps shift it.

ggg-ive been plagued with sinus probs for years, so you have my sympathies.
inhale steam with olbas oil. i also burn eucalyptas oil in an oil burner too.

noddyholder · 25/02/2006 19:48

I am plagued with this too a couple of times a year I really feel for you A really hot bath and painkillers is what I do.At the moment I have ear and toothache but nose isn't too bad I have one of those microwave hot cushions and am off to try that now What painkillers do you take?I am not allowed aspirin but they do work so I sneak the odd one in when the pain is unbearable but would like an alternative

if the worst comes to the worst and you dont feel any better after a day or so, do see your doctor as its not a good idea to leave acute sinusitis untreated.

gingernut · 25/02/2006 20:32

Agree with others re steam, hot shower before bed I find helps, or get a humidifier in yoiur bedroom (or boil a kettle without the lid on to make some steam in the room).

swedishmum · 25/02/2006 20:48

The recommended treatment for kids is a cold flannel (or mildly iced compress) over the face, particularly where sinuses are. Works a bit for my ds and totally non-invasive.

My sinuses are the BANE of my existence. Always have been. I inherited shite ones from both my parents.

Invest in one of those facial steam thingies. When those first came out, I was positively gleeful! Not b/c I give myself facials, but b/c if you're good about keeping them clean, they are a godsend for chronic sinusitis.

3x/day. Add oils - tea tree is what I prefer for its antibiotic properties.

nulnulcat · 25/02/2006 21:59

i tried everything with mine in the end was a trip to drs for antibiotics after suffering for months, and the antibiotics were horrible i warn you now size of horse pills and nasty side effects sorry!!
