TODDLER DRINKS 6 PINTS OF WATER A DAY.........?

ok, ive posted before about my ds food intolerances but his water consumption ive got used too until the health visitor mentioned it at his check up. he's been tested for sugar related diabetes at 1 year old and was negative. hes now 16months old and drinks roughly 9oz water every hour throughout the day (this has been going on for months), he goes through roughly 8 sopping wet nappies a day and clothes.

he carries on drinking throughout the night, although not as much and i have to change wet nappies at least 3 times in the night.

is this normal?has anyone else got a massive water drinker

think thats why they are doing the overnight thing in hospital so i cant give in to her, not looking forward to it though but if it means i get an answer to the problem then its worth it

7up · 25/02/2006 22:08

do let me know somehow nulnulcat, i do hope shes ok and that it wont be too stressfu for you on the overnight

I read it too and just spoke to dd and I'm having dgs tomorrow so I will be thinking about how much he is drinking..I mentioned it to her, a bit hard on the phone as don't want to raise any unnecessary worries but she did say he keeps asking for drinks

7up · 25/02/2006 22:51

taken ds to docs this morning and she says his water drinking is huge but must be habit as the tests he had previously were all negative.

waterfalls, praps he's like your ds and will grow out of it along with the food tolerances, hope so the nappies are costing a small fortuneSad

7op
They can test for what my ds was suspected of having, but he never had the test as he grew out of it before the appointment came through, maybe you could ask for the test just to put your mind at rest.

lunarx · 27/02/2006 11:50

i think asking for tests to be run again would be a good idea. just to be sure...even if past tests were negative.. good luck:)

hi we have a similar situation with my dd, she is nearly 4 and drinks so much, her cup she has holds 12oz, and she drinks probably about 5-6 cup a day and is always weeing, if i try and not give her a drink, she will only drink juice, she goes all lethargic and very restless,

do u think its worth taking her to the gp?
dont wanna take her and they say its normal for a child of her age to drink that amount

thanks
Natalie

p.s good luck with ur lo's

7up · 03/03/2006 20:04

hiya nat, id take her and get her tested just to be sure. apparently my ds has a 'habit', im still unsure if this is right as its only water and not like its something yummy to drink, gona tell paed in april anyway.

nulnulcat dd was in hosp last night having fluid witheld , poor thing, im waiting for her to come on here to let us know how she got on.

def take her it is a lot to be drinking.good luck

lots of good advice love!

nulnulcat · 03/03/2006 21:07

hi we got discharged about an hour ago! last night was awful she had nil by mouth from 530pm and by 7 her usual bedtime she was crying for a drink she carried on crying on and off til she cried herself to sleep at 10, between having loads of blood and urine tests kept waking up asking for drinks and at 1am had a HUGE tantrum! dr on duty agreed at that point to start letting her drink again as she was getting so distressed, saw another consultant this morning and he decided because of her age it would be better to do it by day when i could distract her and to try it for 6 hours and get a result as anything longer would be to cruel for her so we had to do it all over again this afternoon, she got a bit upset but there was a playroom with plenty of toys to distract her and eventually she was so tired she cried herself to sleep for the last couple of hours, poor wee thing! anyway they did another set of tests then let her eat and drink before discharging her and now we got to wait over the weekend for the results. they were testing for diabetes insipidus by the way! she asleep in her own bed now clutching her juice! im knackered! sorry if this was a bit long! thanks for your support everyone

7up · 03/03/2006 21:25

hiya, ive been thinking about you and dd. poor you , thank goodness they realised how wicked it was and let her have a drink. i did wonder how she'd get through. i know my ds would no way last all night without his water, he screams for it also.

so youve got a long wait for the results then, id be very interested wot the docs say about your results. i still think my ds drinks too much for it to be habit.

i bet you are absolutely exhausted, try and get some rest and try not to worry. im glad dd is settled with her juice!bless her. hope youve managed to speak to your dh and you had your friend at hospital with you. goodness, ive waffled nowSmile
