For about a week and a half, ds (4years) was complaining of the base of his scotum hurting. You know where the centre line runs underneath them that splits one ball from the other. I had a look and there was a little scratch there since a week has passed and the scatch has gone but he is itching it at nightime but not in the day. But in the day he keeps holding them saying they are hurting. Nothing looks swollen but it is tender to touch when I am washing him.
It is not his winkle he has not fallen there at nursery or at home as far as I know and because they don't look sore i am not applying any cream just incase I make it worse. I am going to phone the doc tomorrow, but just wanted to see if anyone else had experienced a similar thing. Advice appreciated thanx.

He could have an infection as a result of the scratch. Could it have been an insect bite?
It could be a fungal infection if he is scratching.
Is he weeing as normal?
If the pain is really bad or gets a lot worse then I would call the duty doc. before tommorrow.

What sort of pain does he describe ?
Ache / Itch / Shooting pain ??? That might help lead to a reason.
The fact that it is only night time is probably that during the day he is distracted ....

I've tried but I think he is confused describing the type of pain he is feeling. He tends to answer yes to everything which tells me he can't say exactly what the pain is like. He just says that it hurts and other times he says it itches. There is no scratch, bite or inflamation or swelling there at all which makes me think that it could be something going on inside the scrotum sacs itself. I was going to phone NHS direct but because I am at the docs myself for an antenatal appointment, I thought I'd take him with me and get the doc to look at them. Always worried about being shrugged off by the doctor saying, "Oh he is playing with it e.t.c." He plays with his winkle alot as boys do of that age but have never seen him tugging and playing with his sacs, so I refuse to be fobbed off by the doctor.

Hi moosh, I have 3boys, 9,7, and 16months. I can think of 2 things, he may have an itch in his back passage and think it is in his scrotom, or maybe he has a hydrocele-water build-up this stretches the skin from inside, could be the itch sensation he gets, and that stratch you said you saw, could be him itching.......... I can't think of anything else, if its been going on for this long, take him to see someone, its an important part of his body... hope he is better soon.

Thanks survivor, you know what, he sometimes says my bum hurts and often points to his back passage. So i will definately get him checked out.

Then it might be that he has threadworm, especially if he is scratching at night. Very common in little children!

moosh - I was thinking along the same lines as norma - and if that IS the case it really is terribly easy to solve. It was the "night-time" comment that rang bells for me.

Did you get him checked out? Is it OK now? Do hope so

I had to reopen this thread again. He has had a urine test and all was clear, the doctor told me that is left testicle is slightly retractile and not to worry. But it is tghe left one that is tender. Well a week later he was still complaining so I took him on Thursdan to a different doctor and he is being referred to the hospital. DS never wets the bed if he wets, it is about once every couple of months and he has wet four times this week alone. I am quite worried , but I have to wait on the hospital. Anyone else had this with their children?
