How to get rid off the toe nail fungus? What really works?

I have three toes affected. Have tried a few things (medicine prescriped by GP, homeopathy) but they do not work. Is there anything that really works?
I am going to visit my GP soon but do not know what to ask for.

Sorry to say the only thing that worked for me was the Big Gun pills the GP can prescribe - antifungal things, not toenail paint.

They do require regular kidney or liver checks (can't remember which) as are a bit rough on the system, but I had no side effects and they did the trick fast. That said, my GP would not prescribe them to me if it were just a few toes - she wanted a Bad Case first

it's liver function for the tablets - I had to have mine tested early in January, and was [fingers crossed] that the Christmas/New Year excess wouldn't show up .

Tea-tree oil (and making sure I don't get a recurrence of athlete's foot) has been working for me - not cured yet, but steady progress over the last couple of months.

oh, meant to add, people on here have recommended Vicks for fungal nails, didn't try it myself, just went straight to GP. One toe nail doens't seem to have responded very well to ABs, so i may try it.

Terbenifine is working for me. Nearly cleared up after 3 months. Toenail paint etc were useless.

Many thanks for suggestions. I think with oral medicine it is hard as you do not want to damage the liver. I have had to take antibiotics three times within the last 12 months because of strep throat. I really need to boost up my immune system and antibiotics do the opposite although they do their good part too.

I have read somewhere to eat yogurt with bio-cultures or take in friendly bacteria.
I have been using the tee tree oil but it does not cure the nails.

I will ask the doctor about the Turbenifine; I am a little bit scared about it.

I cannot believe there is nothing safe to cure the fungus.

Has anyone heard about covering nails in vinegar after soaking the feet?

Yes to using vinegar for nail fungus. Not personally but know of friend who has. See your gp first though, just to be sure there's no underlying cause for the fungus to develop. Treatment takes a long time, effectively the time it takes for a new nail to grow. Info

Vicks is working for mine. Initially cleared the infection within a couple of days but came back because I stopped using it too soon. Now using every day so that the nail will hopefully eventually grow out without any fungus. Doc also recommended tea tree oil but the Vicks was cheaper!

Watching with interest. Nail varnish stuff isnt doing anything. Scientifically proven my arse.

i used vicks - I just massaged a small blob into the nail every morning

feels odd as your toe then heats up!

I just do the same as Furball - just a little bit and rub it in. I didn't want to try the medication I got from doc as my FIL lost his sense of taste after taking the oral medication for a toenail infection

Will go and by Vics today. I think that taking something is also good. I need to buy friendly bacteria and ACV tablets.
