Horrid.

I do know that there is a Mnetter who was involved with this in the past and felt that this helped to stop doing real damage to herself.

Not sure if I agree but prepare for possibly more disagreement than you would expect.

Very sad, especially when you see that the "Recovery: discuss getting healthy with people who want to get healthy" topic has fewest threads of them all
God beety what a deeply troubling phenomenon.

hunkermunker · 22/02/2006 10:57

Saw a program about this the other week. Was very scary and frightening TBH. the amount of energy that these people put into not eating was gobsmacking.

I think there are different sorts of site, though; I've just been working on a report on self-harming, and the sites on that issue are apparently very much focused on recovery or management...

Beetroot · 22/02/2006 16:54

the docu I saw was not about recovery. It was ways to con your parents into beleiving you are eating, it was fake picutres of models with ribs sticking out, it was advice on losing 6 lbs in a week

I know, Beety, I was just talking about some sites tackling related issues. I think self-harming is a much more 'shaming' issue than anorexia, which seems to have developed its own 'glamour' (understandably, given our obsession with thinness )

Beetroot · 22/02/2006 16:56

yup socci

yes Mi, the poor girls, desperate to be so skinny that they don't have breasts or hips. And each person egging the others on

OP posts:
Beetroot · 22/02/2006 16:58

socci, it was on channel 4 this morning.

OP posts:
motherinferior · 22/02/2006 16:59

I do think that is just the extreme of a social condemnation of breasts and hips and a bit of fat on you

Beetroot · 22/02/2006 17:57

yes of course MI. But they all look so awful. They don't seem to realse that the celebrtys they ahve been emulating have all had body augmentation and are air brushed
