Do you have any Fenugreek? A friend of mine swears by it for cold sores. You mix it to a paste with a little water then plaster it onto the cold sore, it hardens and you leave it on for as long as you can (overnight is good) before you take it off.

jambuttie · 22/02/2006 10:38

no, dont know what it is

I normally have zovirax "just incase" but there's none, I am wondering if maybe I gave it to someone- silly moo eh!!!!

If my lads could stop being sick for halfr an hout we could get ready and go to the chemist

I was recommended L-Lysine on here. You have to start taking them as soon as you feel the tingle, but they have definitely helped. The sore isn't so sore and is gone in 2-3 days. You can get it in health food shops.

zippitippitoes · 22/02/2006 15:20

lavender oil or tea tree

bootsmonkey · 22/02/2006 15:41

Ice - taks the heat and swelling out of it and stops the itching. Keep it on for as long as you can bear it. The longer the better. Should be gone by morning.

Don't do what I did - put on vaseline all over - because i was on holiday, and really dense and dopey, had never had a cold sore before, thought it was rampant cracked lips.

It spread right across my chin and to the other side of my mouth.. Urghhh! (and Oww!)

edodgy · 22/02/2006 16:17

yeah definately tea tree oil the best thing for it once its come out it dries it up quickly and rel;ieves the itching making it feel like it's had a good scratch.

Rhubarb · 22/02/2006 16:22

I also recommend freezing it off!

bundle · 22/02/2006 16:30

blisteze helps with the pain in my experience, and tea tree not bad for drying it out but maybe too harsh for some people
