What a time to get ill when there are no doctors til Wednesday... Sad

I started to feel ill yesterday- all my glands are up around the whole of my neck and then in the evening a weird boil thing appeared out of the blue on my shoulder which really hurts.( I've had a slightly infected earlobe for a week since I took an earring out, don't know if that's related.) I feel like crap and today I feel worse; my neck feels stiff and I think the glands under one of my armpits are now raised. I Googled and scared the crap out of myself (boils appearing can point to problems with the immune system, diabetes and worse, apparently!) but NHS direct just said take paracetamol.

Does this sound right or should I be persisting with trying for an out of hours appointment? Thank you!

your imune system is probably fighting the infection from ear and so your system is run down hence the boil and glands up. I would keep ibuprofen and try and get out of hours apt for abs.

Thank you for the reply- it really is quite awful when the ibuprofen wears off. Will see if there's any chance of an app tomorrow. Started to worry I've got an overactive thyroid or some other horrible condition!

Which is probably a sign that I should stop googling...

Yup - don't panic, there are doctors. If you want to go to your nearest Walk In Centre you can search here (provided you're in England), or indeed get a pharmacist to give you a poke (so to speak) and advise on whether you need to get a prescription.

Hope you're feeling better soon; fluids and rest, and have a gander at the godawful boil on the NHS Direct/Choices page. A GP I know only ever recommends patients to read Choices or Patient.co.uk.

Thanks tribpot- had a look at that boil page; seems they afflict fat, dirty old men in prison! Grin How glamorous. Will look at patient...

It actually says young men in prison if that makes you feel any better Wink I'm afraid there is no known way to glamourise the boil.
